From idea and immagination to unique game project
In video game development, Concept Art is one of the first steps in the process and together with Game Design lays the foundations for the aesthetics of the game. The concept artist uses technique and imagination to create characters, creatures and settings that together form a coherent style which renders a game unique.
Two years of study rolled into one thanks to a full immersion of lessons, laboratory activities, projects, seminars and workshops.
Attendance is compulsory, lessons take place from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, 3 or 4 times a week.
The lessons will take place at the Digital Bros Game Academy in via Giovanni Labus, 15/3 – 20147 Milan.
The work of the concept artist consists in visualizing and elaborating the Game Designer’s’ concepts and ideas, giving form, with the help of traditional drawings and a graphic design tablet, to characters, creatures, environments, and any other elements of the game world in an original style and with an original design.
The Concept Art course is built around the practical application of the course’s theoretical material, this is done in both class and lab work. Through the constant practice of industry standard graphic and animation software and tools, students quickly acquire proficiency.
THE CONCEPT ART COURSE
The Concept Art course is aimed at game enthusiasts and art lovers who have an aptitude for creativity. Students will have basic artistic skills and knowledge and the desire to gain a professional education to be able to create the artistic content that is essential to developing a video game.
The course covers all of the main topics relating to Concept Art, from the techniques of traditional art and digital pre-production art, 2D and 3D concept production through to artistic and visual direction and the creation of 2D content. In this way students acquire the knowledge and technical know-how necessary to become job-ready and enter the industry.
Starting from the basics, such as perspective, composition and sketching, the aspiring concept artist will learn painting and concept techniques through the use of the principal software tools used in the video game industry. Students work both individually and in teams to develop content that meets the standards required by the industry.
The acquisition of technical knowledge is consolidated by working on projects that simulate the conditions, workload and consignment deadlines of a real software house. Students will receive support from industry professionals to help them develop their concepts and ideas in order to create their own portfolio of projects.
THE CONTENTS OF THE CONCEPT ART COURSE
The Digital Bros Game Academy courses are made up of thematic modules, most of the modules focus on the fundamentals of the given subject matter and are taught by the course’s Core Trainer.
In order to make its courses more professionally relevant, the DBGA has enriched its academic program with a series of so-called “vertical” modules dealing with specific material considered vital to the proper development of video games. These “vertical” modules are taught by Specialist Trainers and aim to provide students with a better grasp of the necessary technical skills as well as to bridge the gap between theory and the real-life workplace.
