A question of style
While designers work with ideas and programmers work with computer coding and technical details, concept artists are responsible for the mood of a game by creating characters, creatures and game environments. 3D game artists bring concepts to life by modelling them in 3D and adding texturing, materials, lighting and animation to the game’s assets.
Two years of study rolled into one thanks to a full immersion of lessons, laboratory activities, projects, seminars and workshops.
Attendance is compulsory, lessons take place from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, 3 or 4 times a week.
The lessons will take place at the Digital Bros Game Academy in via Giovanni Labus, 15/3 – 20147 Milan.
The work of the 3D Game Artist consists in combining both technical and artistic skills to create three dimensional models and objects, organic and non-organic, such as characters, weapons, buildings and any other objects that combine to create the mood and feel of the game.
The 3D Game Art course is built around the practical application, in both class and lab work. Students use industry standard graphic and animation software in class and during the laboratory. It is through constant practice using the software and hard work that students are able to acquire the necessary skills to become job ready.
Se i game designer lavorano con le idee, i game programmer si occupano di codici e tecnologie, i concept artist creano il mood del gioco ideando personaggi, creature e ambientazioni, i game artist 3D danno vita ai concept modellandoli in 3D e gestendo texturing, materiali, illuminazione e animazioni degli asset di gioco.
Il lavoro del game artist 3D consiste nel saper coniugare le competenze tecniche e abilità artistiche per realizzare modelli e oggetti tridimensionali organici e non, come personaggi, armi, edifici, veicoli, oggetti vari, da implementare nel gioco.
L’applicazione pratica nel corso di Game Art 3D è il cuore pulsante di tutta l’attività didattica e di laboratorio. Solo attraverso l’utilizzo reiterato degli strumenti messi a disposizione si può raggiungere, infatti, un effettivo apprendimento dell’uso dei principali tool di grafica e animazione.
THE 3D GAME ART COURSE
The 3D Game Art course is aimed at students who are passionate about video games, have a strong artistic inclination, and are eager to create and produce the 3D content essential to the development of a video game.
The 3D Game Art course is built around the acquisition of the key digital modelling techniques through continuous practical exercises, individual tasks and the realization of group projects that simulate the workings of a real professional software house. By the end of the course, each student will have created their own personal portfolio of projects.
Aspiring 3D game artists will learn how to create projects that simulate the workload and deadlines of an actual development studio. The projects require students to apply all aspects of the 3D Game Artist’s craft, modelling, texturing, digital sculpture, rendering and animation, using the video game industry’s main software types.
Throughout the course, aspiring 3D game artists will also acquire skills relating to animation processes, furthering their knowledge of timing and space, managing an observer, framing methodologies and the practical application of all of these concepts to 3D character and environment models.
THE CONTENTS OF THE 3D GAME ART COURSE
The Digital Bros Game Academy courses are made up of thematic modules, most of the modules focus on the fundamentals of the given subject matter and are taught by the course’s Core Trainer.
In order to make its courses more professionally relevant, the DBGA has enriched its academic program with a series of so-called “vertical” modules dealing with specific material considered vital to the proper development of video games. These “vertical” modules are taught by Specialist Trainers and aim to provide students with a better grasp of the necessary technical skills as well as to bridge the gap between theory and the real-life workplace.
